Tradition in transition – since 1888
At the end of the 19th century, Reichenhall experienced a rapid upswing. In the midst of this development, the Bergfried and Schönblick villas were built – planned from the outset as holiday homes. The first golden years with an upper-class and aristocratic clientele came to an abrupt end with the First World War.
After difficult times during inflation and currency reform, the town flourished again. The Predigtstuhlbahn railway and the modern spa centre still bear witness to this phase today. In 1934, Maria and Josef Förg took over the Villa Dora – named after the previous owner Dorothea Gleißner. While the Second World War destroyed large parts of Reichenhall, Dora, the keep and Schönblick miraculously remained largely unscathed.
From 1958, Maria Fuchs and her husband Anton continued to run the Dora guesthouse. Over the following decades, a great deal was invested: renovated, extended and remodelled in keeping with the spirit of the times. In 1988, son Gerhard and his wife Maria took over the business. In 2006, a modern connecting building united the two houses into one unit with a central entrance, breakfast room and sauna.
Since 2024, daughter Franziska Fuchs has been running the hotel in the fourth generation – with fresh ideas and a firm determination to keep the tradition alive.
